Mechanic's Stool V.2 is a series of collectible stools exploring how industrial heritage can be translated into contemporary furniture. Inspired by the disappearing knowledge of mechanics in Northern France, each stool reflects a way of looking at objects rather than simply using them.
Made from transparent acrylic, the cubic forms reveal a 3D-printed bas-relief embedded beneath the seat. Derived from photographs of internal combustion engines and other mechanical components, these reliefs are digitally translated into sculptural surfaces, preserving details that are gradually disappearing with the transition to electric vehicles.
The transparent material creates a visual tension between visibility and concealment. Depending on the light and viewing angle, the mechanical reliefs appear and disappear, inviting the viewer to slow down and observe what usually remains hidden. By bringing these invisible structures into the domestic environment, the stools transform fragments of mechanical knowledge into sculptural objects that sit between furniture, archive and collectible design.
