Mechanic’s Stool V.1 is an experimental stool inspired by the construction of a car. Its structure combines a chassis and body panels, translating automotive construction into a functional object while maintaining a simple and minimal external appearance.
The project reflects on the gradual disappearance of traditional thermal mechanics as cars become increasingly automated and electric. A light-activated 3D-printed image of an open engine is hidden within the stool, creating a second layer that becomes visible only through interaction. The piece explores how an object can preserve a trace of hands-on knowledge and a mechanical culture that is slowly becoming less visible.
