Coron V.2 is an installation situated between the Northern French coron living room and the automotive workshop. Corons were workers houses built for coal miners, where domestic life and manual labour coexisted. After the mines closed, many former miners became mechanics, making the garage a continuation of this working culture. Investigating what I describe as a second industrial loss, the project explores how digitalisation and automation transform repair practices and the transmission of embodied expertise. Through reclaimed furniture, custom-built furniture, 3D-printed bas-reliefs, and participatory interaction, Coron V.2 asks how design can preserve and transmit forms of mechanical knowledge that are gradually disappearing.
